It’s never too late to start building your beach body

Get your beach body!

You had the very best of intentions.

Last summer was going to be the summer. The summer when all eyes were on you. The summer when removing your street clothes and revealing your beach body was going to be a thrill not an embarrassment.

New Year’s Eve was your night. You made the commitment. You had the resolve. You were ready to go. And it was easy to be committed. The mirror looked rather flabby, everybody was making resolutions, and in that moment—you were ready to take on the world.

And you did for a while. You worked hard. You ate right. You slept appropriately. But one day, you had to skip a workout for a meeting. Then, someone brought in donuts to the office. It was more difficult to get to bed early. By Feb. 1, the motivation was gone. And so was all hope for a beach body.

This is the story we hear so often at Cause and Effects Fitness. Sure, it’s tragic. But it doesn’t have to be the end of the story. It’s never too late to get that beach body. Here’s how:

Start at the beginning

Start now. It may sound cliché, but there’s no time like the present. Don’t start tomorrow, because it never comes. Regardless of your age or fitness level, setting goals and working toward them are the keys to success. Set a goal to make this summer different.  The sooner you get started the sooner you reap the rewards.

Let go of excuses

Are you making excuses? Maybe you feel like there isn’t enough time in the day. Do a self-audit by considering the habits you’ve fallen into and the choices you’re making.  Do you watch too much TV? Do you wind the day down with food? Are you finding any time for activity? Often, when we analyze how we spend our day, we can find a window to squeeze in our fitness routine.

Focus on the benefits

It’s not just about looking good (although that’s part of it). Nor is it all about building confidence (although, there’s that, too). Getting a beach body has some other great benefits as well:

  • New clothes (!)
  • A sense of accomplishment
  • More energy
  • Less anxiety and depression
  • Better sleep quality
  • Longer lifespan
  • Reduced risk of diabetes and other health issues
  • Improved brain power
  • Increased endorphins (feeling better)
  • Improved strength and flexibility
  • Better work performance

Just committing to a fitness routine feels good. Your outlook is brighter and you can be proud of the commitment you’re making. And, when it comes time to remove those street clothes on the beach, you’ll feel much more empowered and free.

Once you’ve made the commitment, getting started is easy.

  1. Figure out the specific goals you want to achieve and write them down.
  2. Own it. Tell your friends and family that you’re doing it (it will elevate your commitment and improve your accountability).
  3. Create a plan of action to achieve your goals.
  4. Find the fitness routine that works best for you.
  5. Get to it!
